Some serious voltage drop happening here. The reason is because you wired them all in series. You need to give each matrix power in parallel (that's why they have the 2 extra power cords). Only the data should be in series, with a 300-500 ohm resistor before your first LED.

I have taken apart about 8 dvd players within the last week. Only one laser has worked and the rest dead as door nail. After the 6th one it came to me to check the dvd player, plug it in, put a dvd disc in it. Take off the top cover and check to see if the laser comes on. Both the 7th and the 8th dvd player the laser was on , no problems. So I took them out, wire them and absolutely nothing. I don't know which pin is hot + and which are ground, common or whatever. Some of them the pins are in a straight line instead of in triangle. So it came to me to check the pins of the one that actually works. I put the multimeter on diode mode, forward voltage thing. The diode that works, the pins are in triangle. I checked the outer pins and the foward voltage from one to the other is 2.9V and when testing it, the laser although weak actually comes on which makes sense. while no reading if connected the opposite. NO forward voltage reading between any other combination including the middle pin, nor do I read any ohm readings. With the other two last diodes I took out, the pins are in straight line. The only reading I get is forward voltage reading betwee one end pin and the middle pin but 1.5V. There is no voltage readings between the outer pins. The same with all the other ones that don't work, regardless if the position of the pins are traiangular or in a stragiht line. I am so stressed.
